Power & Mobility Program Overview
As we age, breath control, strength, power and mobility tend to decline.  Hold off this trend with this unique program designed for older adults. These 60 minute sessions use training elements from Team Atomica’s popular Masters Swim program combined with synchronized swimming power and breath hold strategies, plus on-deck pilates and stretching.
Coach Katie Allen has a passion for teaching adults new ways of using their bodies to raise their heart rate and build strength. In this program, she pulls from her over 12 years of experience with Synchronized swim coaching, Masters swim coaching, Yoga, Pilates and Aquafit teaching.

Comfortable recreational* and experienced Masters swimmers welcome.

*Recommended Swimming Level

The swimming portion of the Power & Mobility Program can accommodate swimmers of many levels, but as a minimum requirement, participants should be comfortable swimming 1-2 lengths (any stroke) of a 25 metre pool, multiple times, over the course of the in-water portion of the program.

Training Includes

Each session will be divided into roughly the 3 sections below.  Times shown may vary by workout

  • Dryland & Mobility (10 -15 mins)
  • Power and Breath-Holding Strategies (20-30 mins)
  • Interval Swim Training  (20 – 30 mins)

Equipment Needed

Except for your personal swim gear (appropriate swim suit and well-fitting goggles and swim cap), no other swim equipment is mandatory but for the dryland portion of the Program you should have the following:

  • Yoga mat
  • Comfy clothes to stretch in (over your bathing suit)
  • Long resistance band that has a medium-light resistance rating
  • OPTIONAL:  heavy and small loop band
  • OPTIONAL:  nose clip (link is to Coach Katie’s favourite!)

2024 Power & Mobility Swim Training Terms & Conditions
  • NO REFUNDS  In the case of a needed cancellation, CREDIT only minus applicable ADMIN FEE will be applied to your account
  • ADMIN FEE $25+HST applies to any Session Registration changes (ie. switching days, time, pool, cancellations, Injury Credit requests etc.)
  • MAKE-UP SWIMS not available for Power & Mobility mini-session
  • INJURY in the case of an injury or sickness that keeps you out of the pool for more than 2 consecutive weeks, we will apply a credit (minus ADMIN FEE per Session) to your account for half of the missed swims and still hold your session spot for you provided you let us know at the time your injury has prevented you from swimming.  If you do not want your session spot(s) held for you, we will apply a full credit (minus ADMIN FEE per Session) to your account for any missed swims as of the day you request this option. Power & Mobility swim Credits are $21+HST
  • FORMS Waiver and Athlete Profile must be submitted annually and is valid April 1st-March 30th. Your registration is not complete with out them.
  • FULL SESSION CANCELLATION if Team Atomica needs to cancel a session for any reason, a full refund for any remaining swims will be given
  • WEATHER & OTHER CANCELLATIONS OUT OF TEAM ATOMICA’S CONTROL (ie Labour Strikes, pool staff not showing up etc.) In the case of the first and second cancellation, participants will be given a full $21+HST account credit per cancelled day. In the case of an extended pool closure of 3+ consecutive weeks, REFUNDS will be offered.
